In the latter part of 2011, Dandelion Coffee Shop was born and we opened our doors to the public on 4th February 2012 and it was a very steep learning curve. It soon became evident that the coffee shop was evolving into a family business in every sense. From day one Mel and John have worked together to support the running of the business. The space of the coffee shop soon became too small for our popular cafe, that when another site in the village became available doubling the capacity and having a kitchen on site, at was then evident that the move would be a good one. Dandelion and Burdock Kitchen and Lounge opened in June 2016 to become a bistro. Our new menu reflects a bistro type style of food to suit all tastes, with some of our ‘old’ Dandelion favourites still available.
The coffee and food….
Having a great tasting, good quality coffee is important to us, especially after many trips to Mel’s roots in Melbourne, Australia, which is renowned for a great cup of coffee. At the time it was difficult to find anywhere at home that we could get a really good cup of coffee, with the emphasis at that time over here still being on tea.
Where possible, we source our produce from local suppliers to help keep other local, small, independent companies such as ourselves, in business. All our food is made to order on the premises and we never pre package anything. We have a daily delivery from our local green grocers, with whom we have a great relationship. We make most of our cakes in our catering kitchen, that way we know exactly what goes in them, including the quality of the ingredients. Our customer favourites include; ‘Malteser’ cake and ‘Rolo’ cake.
